Model years to avoid

Porsche 718 Boxster

21 model years on record, 69 complaints filed. That is too few to measure against. Every finding on this site compares a year with the same model's other years, and that needs about 40 complaints in a year and 4 years to compare it with. This nameplate has none. So nothing is claimed either way — the recalls and ratings below are the record, and they are the whole record.

Which generation to buy

A nameplate is not one car. Measured on recalls, not complaints: this comparison spans a decade, and complaints pile up with age and with sales, so they would rank the oldest generation worst whatever the cars were like. A recall is issued once, by the manufacturer, conceding a defect. Each generation is scored against the median for model years of the same age.

The one to buy: the 2005–2012 car — and within it, 2010, which carries no recalls.

  1. 2005–2012

    Fewer recalls than its age-peers

    Median 0 recalls a model year, against 3 for cars the same age — 0×. Best year 2010 (0), worst 2011 (1).

  2. 2013–2016

    Fewer recalls than its age-peers

    Median 1.5 recalls a model year, against 3 for cars the same age — 0.5×. Best year 2016 (1), worst 2014 (3).

  3. 2017–present

    Fewer recalls than its age-peers

    Median 1 recall a model year, against 2 for cars the same age — 0.5×. Best year 2023 (0), worst 2017 (6).
