What the complaints were about
- dealership said — 6.1% of this year's complaints, against 1.4% across the model's other years (4.4×). Owners wrote it as: dealership said, modifications.
- waiting — 7% of this year's complaints, against 2.5% across the model's other years (2.8×). Owners wrote it as: waiting, compromised.
- turned off — 6.1% of this year's complaints, against 1.7% across the model's other years (3.5×).
Words owners used for the same problem are counted together, so a fault written four different ways is measured once. Grouped by which complaints they appear in, not by a list anyone wrote in advance.

What owners wrote
Ran over a small bump at highway speeds almost lost control as the front end started to wobble and shaking steering wheel. Every time I go over a bridge span or a small bump going freeway speeds front end shakes and have to slow down for wobbling to stop.
After returning from errand about a 20 minute drive, the vehicle was parked and turned off. A short time later we saw smoke coming from the hood and realized the vehicle was on fire. The fire was on the passenger side towards the front of the engine compartmen…

How this was worked out
Every year of the Jeep Gladiator was compared against its own history rather than against other cars, which removes popularity and age from the answer — a common car draws more complaints at equal reliability, and an older one has had longer to accumulate them. A year is flagged when it drew at least 2.5× this model's median and at least 50 complaints.
This is a fault record, not a review. Nobody files a federal complaint to say the car was fine, so it shows what tends to go wrong — not whether owners liked it, and not whether it is a good car.
