2020 Dodge Journey
This year drew an ordinary 62 complaints for a Dodge Journey — the model's median is 352. What they were about is the unusual part: 51.6% of them mention camera, against 1.1% across the model's other years.
Generation 1 of the Dodge Journey, which began in 2009. Everything below compares this year against the others in that generation, not against a different car wearing the same name.
NHTSA opened a defect investigation into this model year.

What the complaints were about
- camera — 51.6% of this year's complaints, against 1.1% across the model's other years (48.5×).
- upside — 37.1% of this year's complaints, against 0.5% across the model's other years (71.4×).
- black — 40.3% of this year's complaints, against 9.8% across the model's other years (4.1×). Owners wrote it as: black, back camera, screen, backing.
Words owners used for the same problem are counted together, so a fault written four different ways is measured once. Grouped by which complaints they appear in, not by a list anyone wrote in advance.
What owners wrote
My rear back up camera most of the time does not work. Sometimes it will work then mid backing up it will go black or show the picture upside down or have green lines in it. I have had this vehicle since 11/2021 and the camera started doing this in 2022. I fee…
Back-up camera was recalled August 25, 2025. Not repaired yet and no information from Manufacturer, Chrysler Corp. The screen shows black and streaks, sometimes reflects upside down images. I have the 2020 Dodge Journey and it is difficult to see when backing.

How this was worked out
Every year of the Dodge Journey was compared against its own history rather than against other cars, which removes popularity and age from the answer — a common car draws more complaints at equal reliability, and an older one has had longer to accumulate them. A year is flagged when it drew at least 2.5× this model's median and at least 50 complaints.
This is a fault record, not a review. Nobody files a federal complaint to say the car was fine, so it shows what tends to go wrong — not whether owners liked it, and not whether it is a good car.
